Additional Information

Are you up to the ultimate Griffith Park Trail Challenge? Participants will have a four hour time limit to accrue points by visiting control locations throughout the park. This will be a great physical day out in L.A.'s premier park. Fun for hiking families as well as serious runners and navigators.

Due to the length and physical difficulty of the course, we encourage running with a partner or in a team for safety. Individual entries will, however, be accepted.

Some sort of award will be presented to the top scoring entry in each of the following categories:

  • Male Open

  • Female Open

  • Male Juniors

  • Female Juniors

  • Male Masters

  • Female Masters

  • Coed Team

  • Mixed Age Team (at least one Junior and one Adult)

Juniors are born in 2004 or later
Masters are born in 1974 or earlier
Male and Female age classes are open to both individual and team entries. Any team must have all members meet the age requirements for Juniors or Masters class.

Maps will be passed out at 9:30am so you have some time to strategize. All participants will start when ready by 10:00am and are expected back by 2:00pm. You may start late, but will still need to be back by 2:00pm. Points will be deducted for returning more than four hours after you start or after 2:00pm.

Beginner instruction will begin at 9:00am for anyone needing it. We encourage you to check out our online beginner information to avoid a large gathering for instruction.

NOTE: This event will use MapRun app based punching.

You will need to download the app to your phone prior to the event. Control sites will not have physical marking of any kind.

Instructions for using MapRun

Can't make it to the event? We can use help visiting sites in advance to check the course. Contact Clare if you can help.

The following standard LAOC protocols will be in place at this event:

  • Please pre-register. $10 additional fee per person for on-site registration dependent on map availability.

  • Bring your own water bottle and snacks. No water will be placed on the course. The park has a number of water fountains which are marked on the map where you can refill if necessary. We will have water available at the assembly area.
