Overview
Enjoy a new park to orienteering and new orienteering map central to Los Angeles but worlds away in vibe. A mix of manicured parklands with picnic areas and rugged open and forest wilds; a former reservoir makes for an interesting flattish hybrid area.

New orienteering map drafted to the latest ISOM standards at 1:10000 scale with 5m contours; it's likely courses will be printed at 1:7500 scale.
White 10 Checkpoints 2.0km 50m climb
Yellow 12 Checkpoints 3.5km 150m climb
Orange 12 Checkpoints 4.5km 250m climb
Motala 25 Checkpoints 8.0km 400m climb (Orange + Yellow)
Additional Information
This event is being held in cooperation with the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation under a core program partnership agreement.
We will be meeting at the Sun Valley Picnic Area, which is accessed by parking in the farthest lot from the entrance booth in the lower area of the park. If the road starts climbing steeply you have driven too far -- there are picnic areas in the highest reaches of the park. Note: this park is very popular and busy on weekends, and the line of cars waiting to pay at the entrance booth can be quite long.
Parking is $7 per car ($5 for Seniors & Disabled)
Or leave your car at home and take the Metro Line to Metro Expo La Cienaga Station and catch the Parklands Shuttle for 25 cents (free for Seniors and children under 5.) Make sure you get off at Kenneth Hahn and not at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook - there are 2 stops the shuttle makes!

To protect the safety of our volunteers and participants, the following protocols will be in place at this event:
Attendance by Pre-registration only. No day of event registration.
Assigned start times to ensure that large crowds do not gather
Maintain social distancing while waiting for your start
Bring your own water and snacks. No water will be placed on the course. We will have single serving bottles available at the start and finish.
Online pre-event beginner clinic information. While you are welcome to ask questions at the event, we will not gather people together for beginner instruction on Sunday.
Please do not attend if you are sick.

Standard LAOC fees:
Adult $13

Children under 10 free (one free child per paying adult, additional children at the youth rate)

Prepayment is encouraged and is the only way to pay with a credit card. The online preregistration system uses Paypal as the payment portal. Only cash or checks are accepted at the event site.
Liability Waiver - Everyone must have a waiver on file. The registration system gives you an opportunity to accept the waiver for yourself or your family members. Minors whose registration is not handled by a parent/guardian must print out the form and bring it with them with a parent/guardian signature.
