Overview

Tahquitz Boy Scout Camp is a well-developed alpine camp. Plenty of trails and features to keep beginners on course, along with contour detail and forest terrain for those more experienced. This event will be part of the COOL League Season.

Preliminary course specifications - subject to change:

• White (Basic): 2.2K, 12 controls

• Yellow (Intermediate): 3.4K, 12 controls

• Orange (Advanced): 4.0K, 13 controls

• Brown (short Expert): 3.8K, 10 controls

• Green (med Expert): 5.2K, 12 controls

• Red (long Expert): 7.6K, 14 controls

• Blue (longest Expert): 9.2K, 17 controls

COVID Mitigation

To protect the safety of our volunteers and participants, the following protocols will be in place at this event:

• Attendance by Pre-registration only. No day of event registration.

• Prepayment encouraged. This will enable non-contact pick-up of materials.

• Assigned arrival and start times to ensure that large crowds do not gather

• A "Mask Required" zone will be instituted around the registration area to insure that those approaching volunteers are masked. Participants outside of the "mask required" zone should practice standard social distancing from those not in their party.

• Maintain social distancing while waiting for your start

• "Catch your breath" zone after the finish prior to approaching the download station

• Bring your own water and snacks. No water will be placed on the course. We will have single serving bottles available at the start and finish.

• No results will be posted on site. Results will be posted to our website after the event.

• Online pre-event beginner clinic information. While you are welcome to ask questions at the event, we will not gather people together for beginner instruction. 

• Please do not attend if you are sick. Refunds will be made if you prepay and cannot attend.

Registration and Pricing

Preregistration is required. Registration closes at midnight at the end of Thursday, October 21.

Standard LAOC fees:

• Adult $13

• Youth (20 and under) $10

• Member discount $5

• Children under 10 free (one free child per paying adult, additional children at the youth rate)

Prepayment is encouraged and is the only way to pay with a credit card. The online preregistration system uses Paypal as the payment portal. Only cash or checks are accepted at the event site.

Liability Waiver - Everyone must have a waiver on file. The registration system gives you an opportunity to accept the waiver for yourself or your family members. Minors whose registration is not handled by a parent/guardian must print out the form and bring it with them with a parent/guardian signature.

Location

Camp Tahquitz near Angelus Oaks, CA

Directions: Follow Highway 38 about 6 miles past Angelus Oaks. Camp Tahquitz is just past Jenks Lake Rd. About 200m after passing the pedestrian bridge, turn right onto a road leading into south camp all the way to the top where you will find the parking area. Please follow all orienteering signage or volunteers directing you to parking and park facing out.
